Further information about Newsroom workshops



Below is everything you need to know about your visit to the Newsroom. Please read this carefully, and ensure that you print out the name register and bring it with you on the day.

How to get here
    The Newsroom is at 60 Farringdon Road opposite the main Guardian building. See map.

    There is a drop-off point for coaches outside the building but there are no parking facilities.

    Transport for London offers free public transport for schools groups in the Greater London Authority area. Teacher/pupil ratio
    There should be a minimum ratio of 1 adult to 10 pupils in your group for pupils under 16, and 1 to 6 for year 3 pupils. The Education Centre takes a maximum group 30 pupils.

Health and safety

    You will be responsible for the supervision and safety of your pupils in the Newsroom. Please ensure that you carry with the standard DFES/LEA consent and medical form signed by parent(s) or guardians, for each child. It should include details of any medications, allergies, name and address of GP, parental home and daytime numbers and an alternative contact as well as parental agreement to the pupil receiving emergency treatment as considered necessary by medical authorities.

Supervision

    You and your fellow teachers will need to supervise the pupils in your group at all times during their visit to the Newsroom, and you will be responsible for the group's behaviour.

Your assistance

    Newsroom sessions are taught by qualified teachers and they will lead the workshop. During the day teachers will be involved in helping pupils with their work and achieving their deadlines.

Packed lunch

    The Newsroom will provide a lunch room for you and your class. Please ensure that each child in your group brings a packed lunch.

On arrival

    Please report to reception on arrival and hand in your list of pupils and staff. You will be greeted by a member of the education team who will take you to the education centre.

    Click here to download a name register form. You must print this out and complete it and bring with you on the day.

Equipment

    Pupils will not have access to their bags and coats in the education centre. They will not need pens, pencils, etc, as these will be provided.

Personal property

    The Newsroom is not responsible for loss or damage to personal property.

Souvenirs

    There are some small souvenirs on sale, for example pens, pencils, mugs, at the Newsroom's reception.

Teacher open evenings These regular evenings at the Newsroom are free to attend and are a chance for you to find out more before you bring your class here.
