The Observer is partnering with A24 and SXSW London to offer our subscribers £5 tickets to a preview screening of Marc by Sofia Coppola, with an introduction from The Observer's chief film critic, Wendy Ide.
In her first foray into documentary-making, Oscar-winning auteur Sofia Coppola turns to her long-time friend and iconic fashion designer Marc Jacobs. Their collaborations have spanned decades, with Coppola starring in his campaigns, collaborating with him during his time at Louis Vuitton, and directing his perfume ads after he launched his own label. Taking a fly-on-the-wall approach, Coppola gives us an intimate glimpse into the everyday process and creative drive of a singular voice in the fashion world. The doc takes us back to the heyday of the nineties, when his star was on the ascendant as fashion’s most trend-averse designer, working his way from Perry Ellis to Louis Vuitton, up until the time he eventually launched his own label. Watching Marc by Sofia is an invitation to join the most glamorous of hangs.
