Central London’s cultural hub, 180 the Strand, is responsible for redefining an entire neighbourhood with its network of creative studios and hospitality spaces. Now Soho House founder Nick Jones has teamed up with creative director Alex Eagle – and her interior design partner, Sophie Hodges – to launch St Clement, his first hotel since stepping back from the members’ club in 2022.
“People are ready for a new London address,” he says. “I’d like to think if the hotelier César Ritz was alive today, he’d build something like this. More T-shirts, cashmere and trainers than bowler hats and heels.” In creating his perfect crash pad, Jones has tried to lose “the many things that could annoy you in a hotel”. Guests shouldn’t need to formally check in, and there will be no one asking them to sign bills or tick laundry-sheet boxes. “It’s a high level of service, but in a new way.”
The hotel is in soft-launch until September (requests for sleepovers are by email until then) but Café Clement opens on 16 June, with former River Café head chef Danny Bohan serving a signature lobster omelette. Also still to come is a 25m pool in the first-floor health club – “so you can swim along the Thames” – plus hot-and-cold therapy from luxury wellness brand, Rebase. The plan, Jones says, is for St Clement to be a genuine day-to-day addition to the neighbourhood. “Just like knowing an Italian restaurant is good because it’s full of Italians, we want this hotel to be full of Londoners.”
