Where do I work?
The Observer newsroom, London (22 Berners Street) plus some flexibility to work remotely 1 day per week.

The New Review is the cultural heart of The Observer, in print and digital. Our Critics section, a mix of sharp reviews, elegant essays and urgent features and interviews aims to offer the most engaging and thought-provoking insight into the Arts each week. We are looking an experienced Arts Editor to join our small team who can run The Observer’s award-winning team of critics; commission and oversee 10-12 pages of print reviews; edit and write reviews and features; contribute ideas across the whole New Review section and its digital and audio expression and oversee our Arts coverage with flair for all aspects of production and design.
Key responsibilities include:
•
Close engagement with the critics on the commissioning and production of our coverage in print and online.
•
Contributing ideas for stories in the Arts and more generally across the section and online.
•
Developing and creating relationships with contributors and PRs.
•
Writing reviews, comment pieces and features.
•
Planning and scheduling coverage of key performances, events and releases throughout the year, overseeing contributors, and managing deadlines.
•
Helping to manage special projects across print and digital, and coordinating with other departments within The Observer.
Key skills & experience include:
•
At least 7 years experience in writing and editing for a national publication.
•
Proven track record in commissioning and editing copy to the highest standard from a range of writers to tight deadlines.
•
Excellent planning, organisational and communication skills, and knowledge of social media.
•
Flexible and erudite thinker with a demonstrable love of the arts and broader culture in all its forms.
