<p>John read English Literature at University College London, then began sub-editing, first for various glossies, later on for The Sunday Telegraph Magazine (chief sub for ten years; he wrote the &#39;Songbird of the Week&#39; column) and then freelancing on the FT Magazine, The Spectator and The Observer Magazine. He has also worked as a copy-editor at Thames &amp; Hudson, and published three books in the start-up Seaside Shakespeare series.</p>
