A computational physicist who helped test Peter Higgs’s theory of fundamental particles, Stuart began setting for The Observer in 2005 after declaring the paper’s Sudoku too simple. He has since transformed the puzzle pages with innovative formats, including Obliks, Big Apple Sudoku, and Train Tracks, using his scientific rigour to develop robust computational models for each new challenge he introduces.
