Ninety years after their birth in smalltown Mississippi, twin sisters Fay and Gay are still inseparable: they cohabit, wear matching outfits, and they even shared careers before retiring together.
Drawn to their visual identity and deep connection, photographer Samantha Yancey, who had been familiar with the pair since childhood, introduced herself as “Jerry’s granddaughter” and asked to document their daily routines. The result is this sweet, intimately realised series of photographs about companionship, sisterhood and the joy that can be found in the mundane rituals of domesticity.
As Yancey recalls: “I left with tea cakes and knitted bookmarks for my children, and a lasting sense of the tender unity that shapes their lives imprinted on my memory.”
