After shuttling between Pakistan and Oman, Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, has met Vladimir Putin in Moscow. Russia’s ties with Tehran have helped its own war effort, giving it access to Iranian technology used to manufacture the drones that now regularly strike Ukrainian cities. But other than reportedly sharing intelligence on the whereabouts of American ships and military personnel, Putin has not repaid the favour in kind. He gave words of encouragement before meeting Araghchi, but perhaps more will come when talks between Iran and the US resume. Putin has previously offered to take custody of Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium.
