Aylo, Pornhub’s parent company, is making the adult website available again for some UK users after an Apple iOS update. The operating system allows iPhone owners to confirm their age at device level, which Aylo argues is the best way to prevent children from going on pornography sites. Pornhub traffic from UK users fell by more than 75% in the months after strict age checks were introduced last summer. In February, Pornhub stopped new UK users from accessing the site altogether. It is believed that many Britons continue to visit the website through virtual private networks that mask their locations. Apple’s age checks change the game, but are controversial. Big Brother Watch, the campaign group, has called for them to be lifted on the grounds that adults who cannot prove how old they are are effectively left with a “child’s device”.
