Online car sellers in Europe have reported surging demand for EVs due to rising petrol prices. Mobile.de, a German marketplace, saw inquiries go up by more than 50% between February and March, while Carwow, which also deals with the UK and Spain, reported an increase of up to 30% over the same period. But driver sensitivity to petrol costs can go both ways and it’s not clear how much interest in EVs will convert to sales. More than 86,000 new electric vehicles were registered in Britain in March, a record for a single month, but these only accounted for 22% of all registrations. The government’s target for the year is 33%.
