Woman putting cream on her face
What base do you wear on your skin in the summer? For the minimalists the answer is possibly nothing (except sunscreen). For those who like a little something on their face when they leave the house, foundations can be too dense for hot weather – and this is where tinted SPF comes in. It looks and acts like protective skincare, but also gives a little colour, adds a light coverage, and your face won’t feel like it’s wearing cake-mix in the heat.

The beauty industry has spent a lot of time trying to frame ‘bodycare’ as some bold new category. The truth is, bodycare always existed, but people didn’t really use it. And now the category has had a glow-up: today’s body products are as luxurious and innovative as anything you’d put on your face. This Works, however, was ahead of the curve. Launched in 2003 by former Vogue beauty director Kathy Phillips, the brand merged natural ingredients with serious performance. Their now-iconic Dry Leg Oil blended 19 botanical oils to hydrate crêpey skin without leaving a greasy film. They also owned the sleep space by launching products to help insomniacs get some shut eye all of which came in their signature ‘sexy hospital chic’ packaging (the NHS, I imagine was not on the moodboard). Hence This Works became synonymous with bodycare and sleep. They’ve since expanded into skincare and, honestly, it’s excellent. Case in point, this Vit C Serum. Vitamin C generally brightens and evens, while also targeting premature ageing. But many formulas can be harsh (a higher percentage of vitamin C in a product is not always a good thing). This one, however, is a triumph. Gentle and powerful, it gives you a glow, hydrates (thanks to hyaluronic acid ) and over time evens tone. So don’t overlook This Works’s skincare. True to the name, it actually does.
