London. Walks with my eldest; the emergency NHS dentist recommended by 111 who turned out to be brilliant; astonishment at the price of coffee; the Marie Antoinette exhibition at the V&A, highly recommended. My eldest and I walked with arms around each other marvelling at the froth and frill. Stopping to laser-peruse the items that actually belonged to MA and catching our breath at her last ever note (beautiful handwriting), her lock of hair intertwined with that of her dead son’s, the actual guillotine that killed her and a prison chemise with a tiny speck of blood on it.
Dinner was at Osteria Napoletana in Ladbroke Grove, where the pasta (mine: paccheri with tiny bullets of perfect fish) was cooked to al dente perfection and a wonderful dessert of homemade peanutella, their own hybrid of chocolate Nutella and peanuts. Try it. It’s £3 a scoop, but you should probably have dinner first.
But my standout this week is Lumi’s new, I like to think made for me, 80% Organic Ugandan Swiss Rocher bar (the milk version is still available and still OMG delicious), £7.75. If you haven’t yet had Lumi’s 80% Ugandan, this is already an astounding bar, but after my laments of a few weeks ago that high-cocoa content bars seldom feature inclusions they’ve made this bar with roasted silvers of almonds. Straight into my top 10. You’ll never believe an 80% can be this good.
Too early for Advent calendars? I think not. Montezuma’s Organic Milk, £18 is boring (all the same chocs), but utterly delicious and devoured by the testers before we had even reached the end of September.
