More than 1.3m people have applied to participate in the 2027 London Marathon, a new record and double the amount who entered in 2024. This figure includes 1.8% of the UK adult population and does not account for the many runners who will try for a charity place. Fewer than 20,000 people succeed through the ballot, but this may change as organisers work to stage a two-day London Marathon next year. They estimate that it will raise more than £130m for charity. The London Marathon is already the biggest annual one-day fundraising event in the world.
