The BBC admitted yesterday that it was made aware of a police investigation into Scott Mills, the well-known radio DJ, back in 2017. Mills was sacked on Monday over his “personal conduct”. It soon emerged that this pertained to historical allegations of serious sexual offences against a teenage boy under the age of 16. No charges were brought after prosecutors determined there was insufficient evidence to proceed with the case. It is not clear what knowledge the BBC had in 2017, but it was reported yesterday that current managers only became aware of the age of the alleged victim in recent weeks. Mills has been a fixture at the corporation for two decades, earning more than £350,000 a year. He confirmed that he had been the subject of a police investigation but would not comment further on the allegations.
