The UAE says it has intercepted drones from Iran for the first time since Washington and Tehran agreed to a fragile ceasefire in early April. Officials from the UAE say the attacks led to a large fire at an oil port. Iran seems keen to send a message to the US, which has renewed efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz under Donald Trump’s “Project Freedom” plan. But giving the operation a pithy name does not make any difference to getting it done. Yesterday the US denied reports that one of its warships was struck by Iranian missiles while trying to access Hormuz. The US, in return, claimed that it had sunk several small boats belonging to Iran. The Strait of Hormuz, meanwhile, remains decidedly shut.
