Tucker Carlson, the right-wing podcaster and former Fox News anchor, has made his most direct departure yet from Donald Trump. In a conversation with his brother, he said that he was “tormented” by his support for the president and called for a “moment to wrestle with our own consciences”. Carlson has repeatedly called out Trump over US support for Israel and latterly the war in Iran. Despite Carlson’s controversial history, it has been widely speculated that he might run for president in 2028, despite denying the possibility. With cash, name recognition and potential appeal to disenchanted voters on the left, he would be a strong candidate.
