Queen Elizabeth II, at the time of her death in September 2022, was regarded as an almost infallible figure. But another crack showed yesterday as newly released documents indicated that she pushed for her son, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, to be given a role as a trade envoy. Chris Bryant, a junior trade minister, said there was no evidence that Mountbatten-Windsor was vetted for the job, which gave him access to government and business contacts. Mountbatten-Windsor has been accused of sharing sensitive information with Jeffrey Epstein while he was in the role. The former prince was arrested in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office and released under investigation. He denies any wrongdoing.
