What to do this weekend, from Yasiin Bey to Natalie Patuzzo, the modern clown

Our critic picks five cultural highlights, whether you have a few minutes, an hour or a night out to spare

4 minutes 30 seconds

Auditorium by Yasiin Bey ft Slick Rick

I first got into Mos Def, the name Yasiin Bey performed under when this track was first released, when I drunkenly stole a bunch of CDs from Amy Winehouse after one of her New Year’s Eve parties when we were teenagers. She showed up at my parents’ house to demand them back and never forgave me. This track has been called “the most perfect rap song ever written”, and while I wouldn’t go that far, the re-release of 2009’s The Ecstatic on his new record label Rhymesayers is a great chance to revisit the album’s standout track. He’s joined by Slick Rick, and the beat by Madlib, one of underground hip-hop’s greatest producers, is undoubtedly one of his best. Well worth a little head nodding time and if CDs were still a thing I would steal this one.

Natalie Patuzzo: Every Single Sound in the World

Clown is having a moment. Not big shoes and red noses, but the sort of affecting comedy theatre that leaves you gripping your sides. As a clown-obsessive I know I’m a little biased, but I find it absurd that in a world where a theatre ticket can cost £700 there are artists charging less than £20 for these beautiful, hilarious performances.

In her Edinburgh Fringe-bound show, Natalie Patuzzo plays an alien who arrives on Earth with a simple task: to collect every single sound on the planet. She uses her voice, objects and audience interaction to generate sounds, while the show is a humorous exploration of the alienating experience of growing up with autism.

Natalie Patuzzo is at the Kings Arms, Salford, 3 and 4 July

The pick of the World Cup matches this weekend. Vinícius Júnior v Erling Haaland is the sort of clash all football fans hope to see when the tournament starts. A defensively shaky Brazil team with one of the oldest lineups still in the competition face a well-organised Norway with probably the best striker in the world in Manchester City’s Haaland – who has Arsenal’s Martin Ødegaard supplying him. Brazil, however, have the genius of Real Madrid winger Vini Jr accompanied by talent including Matheus Cunha, Gabriel Martinelli and Endrick.

A morning or afternoon

Community sauna and cold plunge

Various London locations including Hackney, London

Reset your nervous system and prep for the week to come. This is a great place to be on a Sunday. Depending on your required levels of woo woo, you can join a two-hour ecstatic dance from 11am, roast yourself in the sauna before jumping in a barrel of cold water, and if you’re still not sufficiently relaxed you can follow it up by booking a massage. Non-London saunas offering similar services (usually without the dancing) are popping up nationwide from Margate to Exmouth, Bristol, Brighton, Inverness and Penarth.
