No snow required: style goes slopeside

Fashion is heading for the piste with winterwear – and bobsleigh-inspired jumpsuits

Blame Heated Rivalry, blame the Winter Olympics (currently in full swing in Milan and Cortina), but winter sports have never looked more appealing – and fashion houses are getting in on the act. Balenciaga’s autumn collection (pictured right) was full of oversized blouson jackets, second-skin leggings and bob-sleigh-style bodysuits, all made to be worn off the mountain as much as on it. Meanwhile, skiwear brand Perfect Moment sells polar-flare down jackets and cable merino knit sweaters; and Farm Rio’s collaboration with Whitespace (founded by snowboarder Shaun White) has brought tropical prints to the slopes. A favourite is independent brand Dolly Sports’ outerwear, worn with retro-look high shine leggings in jewel colours – very camp, very joyful. Just swap out moon boots for trainers for the every day – or being shot out of a canon.
