Mark Goldbridge, real name Brent Di Cesare, is reportedly enjoying a seven-figure windfall after his YouTube channels were bought by retired footballer Gary Neville. Neville, whose company The Overlap is best known for the Stick to Football podcast, said he wanted to develop the “most compelling Manchester United and football news channels in the market”. That this deal has happened at all is an indication of how much sports media has been disrupted by new ventures in recent years. Goldbridge, a former police officer known for his hyperbolic style, already holds rights to broadcast games from Germany’s top men’s league. But there is still plenty of room for the big fishes. As of the start of this year, the majority shareholder in The Overlap is Global, a media giant with nearly £900m in annual revenue.
