Ticketmaster overcharged fans for tickets, a jury finds, but the battle for fairer prices is not over

Ticketmaster has come over fire in the US and the UK for their dynamic pricing ticket model

Ticketmaster and its parent company Live Nation have been running a harmful monopoly over large music venues in the US, a New York jury has found.

Live Nation denies it is a monopoly, and plans to appeal the ruling, but the finding – and growing backlash from artists – could mean cheaper tickets for concert-goers.

In this episode of The Sensemaker, we examine:

  • •

how we got here: how Ticketmaster and LiveNation work’

  • •

controversial pricing practices and a recent dynamic pricing row over Oasis tickets; and

  • •

what all of this means for music fans.

Whatever the case, LiveNation is not going to accept the jury’s verdict lying down, says The Observer’s Stephen Armstrong.
