In a rush? Get makeup-ready in zero time

A friend sent me a text. “I have a fancy event,” she wrote. “What is the best beauty tip when you have to get ready in a rush?” I had three. First, don’t experiment with something new. I once tried a primer with zero time on my hands; it made my makeup bobble like a boucle chair. Second, foundation mixed with highlighter equals fabulous skin, fast. Most importantly, keep it simple. My failsafe look is a lined eye and nude lips. Très chic. It always stands the test of time.

My top five

1. Gucci Westman Suede Matte Lipstick in Je Reve £45, Liberty
2. Victoria Beckham Satin Kajal Liner £32, Victoria Beckham
3. Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Pillow Talk £29, Charlotte Tilbury
4. Chanel Signature de Chanel Waterproof Eyeliner £37, Chanel
5. Nars Explicit Lipstick in Decadence £34, NARS Cosmetics

I can’t do without... A skin-quenching SPF mist to apply over makeup

Naked Sundays Hydrating Glow Mist SPF 50+ £36, Naked Sundays

I’ve recently been left wondering if showing excessive pride about one’s use of SPF is becoming a thing. I keep hearing people boasting about how great they are at using it. They brag that they avoid direct sun, that they use all the best brands and that they go for broad-spectrum sunscreens – aka those that protect skin from both ageing (UVA) and burning (UVB). One person told me they only use ‘factor 100’ (yes, it does exist and yes the weight of this individual’s gloat silenced everyone around them, because how does one compete with that?) Wearing your SPF allegiance as a badge of honour is much better than not using sunscreen at all. But what most don’t know is that the power of wearing SPF – even if it’s factor 200m – is negated if you don’t reapply every couple of hours. But when you have a face of makeup: how? The answer is an SPF mist. Most will leave your skin looking dead, but this one by Naked Sunday is excellent. It includes hyaluronic acid, which hydrates the skin and makes it look radiant. Plus, the Kakadu plum in it – rich in vitamin C – brightens and smooths. And the sheen it leaves (white-cast free!) freshens up your makeup no end. So, for all the braggadocios SPF-users, while the watermelon fragrance might be a little sweet for some, this comedogenic-free spray gives you a more authentic reason to brag about your sunscreen use.

On my radar… Scents and skincare for right now
