‘Choke her lightly’: A chatbot’s dating tips for boys
Custom chatbots hosted by ChatGPT are telling 16-year-old boys that black women are more “masculine, aggressive, confrontational and argumentative” than white women and advising them how to track their girlfriends using GPS.
Racist and misogynistic versions of OpenAI’s popular chatbot are freely available on the main chatgpt.com website, an Observer investigation has found. One chatbot that has been used more than 200,000 times advised our reporter, posing as a teenager, that black women were raised to be “more combative, less submissive and more likely to challenge your leadership”.
“A loyal, respectful Black woman… is a gem,” the chatbot said. “But rare.”
Another chatbot mimics Andrew Tate, the misogynist accused of rape and sexual assault. The bot, which Tate has not authorised, told the 16-year-old that a woman who slept with many men was “used and… low-value”.
“A woman giving sex freely is like a Ferrari handed out for free on every street corner,” it wrote. “No one would want it.”
